A constitution is a guide, but that guide will not be of any use unless the people of the Nepali nation understand the rule of law and respect law for the safety and security it provides to all Nepali citizens.

The most advanced countires on Earth have protected the rights of all people, men, women, and children equally.

It is time for Nepal to protect the rights of women and children, equally, as are  those of men.

Coalition for Women's and Children's Rights - Nepal


Goals of CWCR - Nepal

CWCR will hold a national/international event oriented toward discussing the issue of the new Nepalese Constitution. To this Conference, CWCR will invite all Parliament members, various influential political party leaders, professors/ university department heads, representatives of (I)NGOs, and members of civil society. CWCR will develop a website, which will include a short biography and picturesfrom each member organization.

CWCR will develop a publication as a forum for the research and dissemination of information from Nepal concerning women’s and children’s rights.

CWCR will undertake fundraising, writing proposals to donors and possible supporters, and member organizations will raise some funds and pay commitment membership fees.

History of the organization


On 20 January 2009, various organizations, federations, other groups currently working in Nepal in the fields of women's rights, children's rights, and human rights came together to form the Coalition for Women's and Children's Rights (CWCR). With a goal of equal rights and citizenship for all Nepalis, the Coalition is a network focused on disseminating information on human rights throughout Nepal, focusing on the members of Parliament. The Coalition will promote open discussion and idea sharing with the ultimate goal of directly influencing the inclusion of women's and children's rights policy in the forthcoming Nepali Constitution.

Membership in the Coalition is open through an application process, and all organizations working with women's and children's rights are encouraged to apply.

CWCR has selected as its officers: Renu Sharma, President and co-founder of the Women's Foundation was selected as Coordinator, President of AFO Nepal - Raj Kumar Baral - was chosen as Secretary, and Wim De Becker, Director of Shangrila Home was selected as treasurer.

The Coalition Assembly also selected the Advisory Committee, including Mr. Pradeep Pokhrel (Human Rights leader and former president of Amnesty International Nepal), Mrs. Deirdre Panhel (Educational Specialist ), and Mr. Charan Prasai (Human Rights leader and former president of Amnesty International Nepal).
